Add Products to the LabFriend website
Along with the extensive range of LabFriend products, you also have the option to add your own product range to the website!
Grouped Product vs. Simple Product
It’s important to understand how a product listing on the LabFriend website is structured. Any product listing has 2 components; the Grouped Product, and its associated Simple Products (1 or more). Each product type has different data requirements to be added.
- The Grouped Product is where the main info about a product is. For example: “Measuring cylinders, PMP, class A” / here is where you enter the overview of the product line, along with an image, and any available product documentation.
- The Simple Product is the individual sizes of that Measuring Cylinder, so if the measuring cylinder has 5 sizes, each Simple Product would be an individual size, with its own unique SKU.
Once each is created, the Simple Product is associated (linked) to the Grouped Product. Then, the Simple Product can be copied for as many SKUs as are needed for the product line you are adding.
Creating the Grouped Product
As the Grouped Product is where the main product information will be added, this is also where you must consider SEO, meta descriptions and meta keywords, as this is the page that Google will index.
Add New Grouped Product Overview
General Information
- Display to All Stores
- This enables you to sell the product via other LabFriend stores, as well as your own
- Leave this unchecked for now
- Product Type
- Here you can switch between Grouped and Simple. Default is Grouped
Standard
- Product Name
- Enter the Product Name as it will appear on the website
- Short Description
- This brief product description can also be used as the Meta Description
- Full Description
- Longer version of the above with more information and data
- Admin Comment
- You can add your own Admin comments for your staff to reference when they search for this item on the LabFriend admin system
- Index On
- This will tell you when the product was indexed for search purposes
Associated Product (variants)
- This is where you can link the Simple Product to its Grouped Product
- Pro tip! Once you create and associate a Simple Product, you can then copy the Simple product, and the copy will automatically be associated to the Group. Very handy if, using the example above, your measuring cylinder has 10 different sizes.
